Simone is an assistant professor at Sapienza University (Rome), with a strong interest in machine learning, particularly deep networks, activation functions, and audio applications. Previously, he was a post-doc fellow at the same department (Rome), and an honorary research fellow at the CogBID laboratory at the University of Stirling (UK).

He is very keen on promoting machine learning concepts and making them accessible to everyone by organizing events, speeches, and hackathons. He is a co-founder of the Italian Association for Machine Learning, a not-for-profit organization with the aim of promoting machine learning concepts in the public. He also is the co-organizer of the Rome Machine Learning & Data Science Meetup, that organizes monthly events in Rome, and a member of the advisory board for Codemotion Italy.
